Simeka owns 51% of the Springlake Colliery which is an anthracite coal mine situated within the Klipriver Coalfield near Hattingspruit, some 15km northwest of the town of Dundee in KwaZulu Natal Province.
The project was bought with farming land in excess of 2 400 hectares . Dundee area is a well known farming area for both livestock and crop offering. The total Springlake operations mineral resources is 23 Mt, with 17 Mt classified as measured resources, 10 Mt as indicated resources and 6 Mt as inferred resources. The most viable method to exploit this coal resources is through drill and blast which will allow mining through the geological structures.
The mine has combined seams has an average thickness of 3.32m shall be mined at a rate 60 kt/month that will translate to a 25-year LoM but it is scheduled 14-year LoM.
